Rustic Little Tree Ornament -Handmade Christmas Series

Rustic Stick Tree Ornament. Handmade DIY Christmas Crafts Tutorial.

What a charming little tree this is, and the great news is that it’s very easy to make! These ornaments are great for Christmas Trees, on top of gifts, or nestled in some moss as a centerpiece.

This is part of my Handmade Christmas series, here’s the others in case you missed them:

Supplies you will need:

  • Twigs or sticks of any kind, as long as they are roughly the same thickness.
  • Clippers or very sturdy scissors for trimming the sticks
  • Hot glue gun with glue
  • Any kind of string that you like
  • Any kind of embellishments that you like, such as buttons, pompoms, dried berries, or just scraps of fabric or paper. Even a little ball of tin foil could be cute to deck out this mini tree.

Instructions:

First, trim your sticks to the right size for the tree that you want to create. I love making a tall, slim tree, with a little trunk. So cute! Lay you sticks out in the shape of your tree, and make sure all the corners are touching.

Put a small bead of hot glue at each corner, and allow the glue to cool for a few minutes so that the tree is held together. Then turn the tree over and add a few more beads of glue to strengthen the bond. Allow the glue to cool completely.

Beginning at the bottom corner, place a little bead of glue and place the end of the string into it. Make sure it is secure as the glue cools, because this will be your anchor or you string.

Slowly flip the tree over and begin winding the string in a spiral around the tree. At each corner where the string touches the stick, ad a little bead of glue just under the string. This will keep it from slipping around

The string should be just tight enough to hold itself in place, it does not need to be super tight.

When you get to the top of the tree, simple keep rotating the tree and wind your way back down in whatever random pattern looks good to you! Secure the string with a bead of glue at the bottom corner of the tree, then trim the string after the glue has cooled.

Add a few decorations with a bit of glue. I love these rustic little buttons, but you can use whatever you like! Some little dried leaves or bits of lichen would be pretty! A knot of yarn or a tiny paper bow would be cute, too!

I used some twine to make a loop, then just glued it to the top of tree to make these into Christmas ornaments!

And VOILA! A darling, rustic little ornament is born. These make wonderful presents, or decorations for you home.

Aren’t they pretty in this basket of moss I harvested from our 100 year old apple trees?
