Easy Fabric Wrap Ornaments - Handmade Christmas Series

Aren’t these little fabric fruits just the cutest thing? I had so much fun making them, and they are delighfully festive on our tree this year.

This is a perfect use for scrap fabric. You can just keep them as balls, with a bow or a few beads as a garnish, and you can even turn them into little fruits like I did, by adding a burlap leaf and a cinnamon stick stem.

Supplies you will need:

Styrofoam craft balls in the size you like (You can also use a ball of foil!)
Fabric
String
Hot glue gun and glue
Embellishments such as cinnamon stick, burlap, a bit of ribbon or a few beads.

Instruction:

Begin by creating strips of fabric. I like to rip mine, which gives them a frayed edge. I like this rustic look, but of course you can cut your fabric with scissors or pinking shears if you prefer!

You can tear any woven fabric. Just make a little snip with scissors to get started, then pull swiftly on each side and just rip off a section! If the fabric is woven, it will tear on a straight line and make a frayed edge. You will probably have to remove extra little strings on the side.

Since I was using scrap fabric, my strips ended up being about 14 inches long, and 1.5 inches wide. These measurements are very flexible, basically you can use whatever length and width of fabric strips that looks good to you!

Just begin by attaching the strip of fabric at the bottom of the ball, and letting the glue cool for a few minutes. Then just start wrapping, putting a few dabs of blue every couple of inches to keep the fabric from slipping around.

When you get to the top and bottom of the ball, give the fabric one twist and secure it with glue. This makes a pretty, gathered look at the top and bottom. Secure with dabs of blue on each side of the twist.

I had to use two strips of fabric because I was using scraps and they were not long enough to cover the whole ball. I just made sure that I did the patched part at the bottom of the ball so it wouldn’t be obvious. With this patterned fabric it’s not really visible at all!

If you want a plain little fabric ball, just blue on a string loop and you’re done! I also added a cinnamon stick “stem”, and little burlap leaves to make the balls into fruits!

A few dots of blue and some pinches made this little leave into the cutest shape, don’t you think? I held it for a moment to let the glue cool, then trimmed the edge and glued it right onto the top of the ball.

I think the cinnamon sticks were a festive touch for a stem, but you could use a twig or whatever you have, even just some rolled up paper would work!

I think they look so charming nestled into this little basket of moss from our apple trees. They would make a delightful centerpiece all season, but these ended up on our tree, in multiple colors and looking darling.
