This classic stick star is one of my favorite ornaments of all time. It’s so simple and easy to make, but will forever be the rustic ornament that feels like an old fashioned Christmas to me!

Supplies you will need:
- Sticks or twigs
- Clippers or strong scissors
- String or twine
- Hot glue gun and glue

Instructions:
I started by trimming five sticks to all exactly the same size, then laying them out in the shape of a star. Since I was using natural sticks, they were not perfectly straight, so it took a few tries to get each stick into the best position.
The goal is to get all the corners of the sticks to touch. Don’t worry so much if the cross pieces are touching, that is less important.

I placed a little bead of blue at each point where the sticks touch, and then allow the glue to cool. This held the star together just enough to turn it over and add some more glue until it was all sturdy.

Next, I bound the corners with a natural twine, but you can use what ever string you like. A line of glue on each side side of the point, then just wrapped the twine around about 8 to 10 times.

To tuck in the end of the twine, I made a little bead of glue on the underside of the wrapping, and held the twine in it until the glue tried (about a minute). Then I just trimmed up the end.

To make this star into a hanging ornament, I put a loop of twine through the point that I thought looked best as the top, then simply wrapped the twine around it like I had for the other points.

And that’s it! Not to tricky at all, and I made a set of starts with several different sizes. Can you imagine how cute it would be to have mini starts to deck the top of gifts, or to pop into a floral arrangement?
Below you can see a few ideas I had for making my stars into a center piece, with some greenery and baskets, and a bit of moss. The possibilities are endless, and so lovely! Scroll down and have a look!

These stars are really easy to make, and will last for years if you take care of them. For more inspiration on on my Handmade Christmas Series, check out these other ideas:
