These darling little trees are looking pretty cute on top of my wardrobe this year folks! I just love how they turned out. They can be made with nearly any kind of greenery you have on hand, and with just some cardboard and a hot glue gun, you’re on your way to a bit of handmade Christmas charm.

Supplies you will need:
- Cardboard or a pre-made tree form (available at a craft store)
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Clippers or sturdy scissors
- Greenery of your choice

Instructions:
The first thing I did was to create my tree form. I used some old cardboard that I had laying around. Of course you can buy cardboard tree forms from a craft store, but these do work just as well.
I molded my cardboard into a rough cone, then glued it, then trimmed the bottom until it stood up well balanced.

I clipped some branches from a live Christmas garland that I had bought, and I also collected some beautiful leaves from our property. They both make awesome trees!

I began by gluing the foliate around the bottom of the tree, making sure that it covered the bottom edge. I worked all the way around the tree in a spiral pattern, over lapping the leaves so that the cardboard was well covered.

After I got the first few layers on, I went back and trimmed the excess foliage from the bottom of the tree so that it would stand up and balance well.

I did need to go back and patch a few places where the cardboard was showing through a bit, so I just pulled back the greenery and added a few pieces to cover the bald places.

I worked my way all the way to the top of the tree, then just tried to make a pointed top with the branches I had available. Not perfect, but pretty good!

For this tree made of leaves, I did just the same thing, making a stripe of glue then adding a few overlapping leaves, like shingles. It’s starting to look cute!

I did try to create a pointy top, which was’t perfect but I tried to pick the best side to be the “front”. It works for me!

And that’s really how easy it is, and look how darling the are on top of my wardrobe! Now, these are made of real foliage, so they are a one year decorations, but if you want to make these out of faux foliage, or even paper, they will last for years.

I’m so please with how these trees turned out, they are so rustically elegant, wouldn’t you agree? How would you style these trees in your own home?

I love these tree ideas…how long do they hold up? Did you do anything to keep them longer?
