This is the way to start your day. These buns are so buttery and rich, and are made with a croissant dough. A but of orange zest and nutmeg give them a warm, spicy zip! (Printable Recipe at the bottom.)
A quicker croissant dough
Croissant dough, when made the traditional way, is wonderful but take a long time. This version is much quicker and will still give you a fantastic texture and that wondrous buttery flavor! The full recipe and instructions for my quick croissant dough.
Spice it up!

Sweet buns can be a bit heavy, so I wanted to ad in some zestiness to these morning bun, to get the days zippin’, ya know?

Orange with nutmeg has always been a personal favorite of mine, but for those of you who don’t love nutmeg, cinnamon is a wonderful alternative, or even just plain orange. Or try each version and see which you like best. For quality control purposes, of course.

I always mark out my rolls when I want to get them perfectly uniform in size. I had twelve muffin tins to fill so I was sure to get twelve buns out of the this log!

The dough is quite fragile, work quickly to keep it cold, and this will give you the best puff!

I butter my muffin tins pretty ferociously, as you can see. The filling can get sticky when it bakes and there’s nothing more disappointing than mangled buns that have to be scraped out of the tin with a fork. Eek! So, butter away!

The finishing touches
A light egg wash and sprinkle of sugar on top of the buns before baking give them a wonderfully crispy top.

I make a super simple little glaze with some fresh orange juice and powdered sugar, and drizzle it over the buns just before serving. So delighful!

If you need to photograph your buns, please do so with cute baby in the background, and share you pictures!

I would love to hear how you like these buns! Please let me know your favorite filling ideas in the comments, too!
